Don’t Wait, Increase Digital Press Productivity Now!

No one likes to wait, especially when something goes wrong. Whether it’s in our day-to-day lives (waiting on a plumber or a car repair) or in our digital printing business (waiting for a job in prepress or for a tech to come and fix a machine issue), we feel stuck and helpless. The only thing we can do is…wait. Or is it?
Sometimes we can take matters into our own hands. In life this means arming ourselves with knowledge. This usually takes the form of a little research on the web and a visit to the autoparts or local home improvement stores.
In digital printing, waiting costs production time and production time is, as you well know, money. How do we take back some of that precious time? We leverage the right people with the right knowledge.
Digital print operators should attend training programs designed for their specific machine to increase productivity. Experienced digital print operators can attend advanced training programs to really put production into high gear by greatly increasing “up time” and saving money! One such example is Xerox Productivity Plus (XPP) for the iGen3 and iGen4 Digital Press which will allow your operator to do much of what your service technician can do. A trained operator will also be able to expedite the repair process by doing much of the advance troubleshooting ahead of the tech’s arrival. In this way, not only do you re-coup the time you would have spent waiting for a tech to arrive, but you could also reduce the time it might have taken for a tech to fix more serious issues.
Ever run your machine when it’s not covered by your service contact? “Off hours” service visits can be expensive. If the job can’t wait till the morning, a trained operator could save the day by saving your profits. It’s simply getting the most out of your digital press investment.
How many hours do you wait per month on a machine issue or a technician to arrive? Do you pay for “off hours” service visits? How much more production can you realize by recapturing 2/3 of that time?

I significantly increased my iGen3 productivity by switching to FreeFlow VI Compose from XMPie. I no longer wait hours for my jobs to compose.

    Hi John!
Thanks for your comments. I’m glad you are enjoying your machines. A good place to start is by contacting your analyst or technician and see what available for your machine. Good luck!

    Hey Tim!
Good point! Bottlenecks in your workflow can really put the slow down on production as well. Sometimes different software or hardware is just the thing to speed up production! XMPie is pretty awesome and can do some nice variable work. Good luck with thanks for your comments!
